Frequently asked questions:
What are ceramic knives made of?
Our knives are made of an advanced, high-tech zirconium ceramic material. According to thickness comparisons, these ceramic knives are second only to diamonds. Zirconium is extremely hard, wear resistant, and can never rust.
How should I use my Abundant Chef ceramic knife?
Ceramic knives are best for slicing fruits, vegetables and boneless meats. However, please note that these knives are made to be complimentary to steel knives which are useful for carving, prying, boning, cutting frozen foods and slicing cheese. Ceramic knives should always be used with a wooden, plastic or bamboo cutting board and should never be used with kitchen plates, kitchen tile or other hard surfaces like marble or glass. Ceramic knives should be hand washed with soap and water and never put in the dishwasher.
Is a ceramic knife “dishwasher safe”?
No. It is recommended to clean these knifes with soap and water by hand. If necessary, a bleach/water mixture can be used. Washing ceramic knives in a dishwasher can lead to chipping or breaking (and can also damage your other dishes).
Will a ceramic knife break if I drop it?
Yes, proper care is necessary for continued use of these knives. As with any knife (of any material), it is possible to chip or break the knife if it strikes a hard surface at certain angles.
What type of use could damage a ceramic knife?
These knives can be damaged by neglecting proper use and care. Never cut on hard surfaces such as glass or metal. Always use a wooden, plastic or bamboo cutting board. Never use the knife to pry, or twist or cut through hard objects such as bone.
Do Abundant Chef products come with a warranty?
Yes! All products are under a 1 year limited warranty. These products are warranted to be free of defects in material and/or craftsmanship. Please note our warranty does not cover damage due to improper use (see above for proper use guidelines.) If a claim is made, the knife must be sent to us and inspected before determining if the product qualifies for a replacement.
Where should I store my Abundant Chef ceramic knife?
You can store your Abundant Chef ceramic knife in a conventional knife block, in an in-drawer tray, in a sheath or in the package.
How do I sharpen ceramic knives?
Currently our knives must be resharpened at our facility. A $10 fee is required to cover shipping and handling. You may include as many knives in the package as you’d like for this fee. If you are interested in taking advantage of this service, please contact us at email@example.com
Can I use a ceramic sharpening rod on a ceramic knife?
No. Ceramic sharpeners are created for metal knives. Ceramic material is harder than steel, but using ceramic sharpeners on ceramic knives will be ineffective and can damage your knives. To sharpen your knives, please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org to take advantage of our sharpening service.
